KC-10 Maintenance Complex
Travis AFB, California
Completed in the Summer of 1996, this facility will house the newest and largest Air
Force transport aircraft - the KC-10. To compensate for the immense size of this hangar,
the architect elected to utilized a combination of vertical insulated metal panels
accented with rows of horizontal metal accent bands.

It is particularly noteworthy that initial Bid Proposals for the project were rejected
due to budgetary constraints. During the project redesign, EMCO was contacted by
OKon to assist with pricing alternatives for the Horizontal metal bands.

In its present form, the insulated wall system is primarily composed of
the vertical, Aluma Shield AW-220 Wall Panel. Accenting the vertical sections of wall are
the horizontal bands that incorporate a custom designed panel manufactured by Benchmark
Industries. By using the Benchmark panel, EMCO was able to deliver the horizontal banding
so important to the designer, while maintaining the continuity of insulation value and
interior finishes with the main wall area.
Selected for its structural properties and its Corps Approved
design, EMCO elected to use Carlisles VersaLok SSR roof panel. Insulation for the
roof covering is provided by the 4" thick Hi-Therm rigid board insulation from
Celotex.
